Gen. 9:13, NASB
After the flood that destroyed the whole earth, God promised Noah that ‘never again shall the water become a flood to destroy all flesh’ (Gen. 9:15, NASB). God set His bow in the cloud, and used it as the sign of ‘the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth’ (Gen. 9:16, NASB).
God’s bow in the cloud is an eternal reminder of His promise of grace and mercy to all of mankind, and God fulfilled this very promise when He gave us Jesus Christ, His one and only begotten Son.
When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, we are born again as children of God, and Heaven – where God Himself dwells – becomes our eternal home. It is only when we have a consciousness of eternity that we begin to realise our time here on earth is extremely brief.
For all of eternity, we will see God’s bow before us, and we will see God’s glory:
‘Like the appearance of a rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the brightness all around it. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord.’ (Ezek. 1:28, NKJV)
‘. . . and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald.’ (Rev 4:2-3, NKJV)
What a wonderful day it will be, when we get to Heaven. What a day of rejoicing it will be!
